‘The Moon Daughters of Changxi’, a series of paintings made with Indian ink and watercolors on paper, refers to a story in the ancient Chinese mythology about the origins of the moon.
Changxi, one of the wives of Di Jun, god of the Eastern sky, gave birth to twelve moon daughters, each a different shape. The number of the moons varies across different areas. According to some variations of the myth, she bathes her children in a pool of water in the West, in order to cleanse them from the dust. Following a similar process, by soaking the surface and wiping, Changxi’s daughters began to appear arbitrary, in the hazy side of imagination.
